I’ve heard for some time buzz about these glosses but honestly I didn’t really jump when I first heard about them. I figured when and if I saw them then I’d purchase them to see what the buzz is all about. When I was at Walmart a few weeks ago and stumbling upon the display for L’Oréal Voluminous Butterfly Mascara, right next to it was the display for Maybelline’s Color Elixir’s. This is what Maybelline’s website says about these elixirs:
Why You’ll Love It
- A trio of concentrates delivers the color of a lipstick, the cushiony care of a balm, and the glass shine of a gloss
- Our exclusive smoothing angora brush delivers a polished , even application and smoothing sensation to lips

Apply lipcolor with applicator wand starting in the center of your upper lip. Work from the center to the outer edges of your lip, following the contours of your mouth. Then glide across the entire bottom lip.”
This collection has twenty beautiful colors to chose from and I picked six that caught my eye.
Left to right
Nude Illusion, Vision In Violet, Raspberry Rhapsody, Caviar Couture, Amethyst Potion & Signature Scarlet
Here are are the swatches for colors I chose
You will now notice with the remaining five colors there is a slight tint that the elixir leaves on the lips.
Vision In Violet (my favorite from all six)
It comes in a nice packaging and you get .17 fl oz of product. When you open it you’ll notice the wand. I took a picture of it from three different angles.
The gloss does have a light scent to it but I don’t find it to be over powering. I noticed that when I applied it I felt a little bit on a tingle on my lips. I’m not sure if its something within the ingredients or not, I’m almost positive it is, I wish I didn’t throw away the little sticker with the ingredients so I can look it up which I will. When you apply it it does feel chushiony, The color payoff is like a lipstick with the shine of a lip gloss without the stickiness. I personally wouldn’t compare them to lip stains as the company does not advertise them as such. For the most part the bold darker colors I tried on did leave a subtle hint of tint behind, but not enough to to really say it’s a “lip tint” They actual staying power on these didn’t last long on my lips for more than an hour or two on me and that’s without drinking or eating anything. If the price was lowered I’d say sure give them a try, but in reality there are so many better options out there for example Nyx Lip Cream, Revlon Just Bitten & YSL.
Bottom line at the end of the day it comes down to personal preference but in my professional opinion, I’d say skip this product. It’s not worth paying full retail price on it. But if you really want to buy it and you just have to buy it. Look for sales and coupons and any other rewards points you may have accumulated. I hope this review was helpful in your decision makings. If you’ve tried this product I’d like to know your thoughts on it.
